WMS Lionettes

Marlie is a 6th grader at Woodcreek Middle School this year. Most 6th graders can't participate in school sports but for some reason the 6th graders can be on the dance team. I encouraged her to tryout. It's not at the same level she's used to dancing but I knew it was a great opportunity for her to meet new friends and be a part of the school. And she loved it!

The girls got to perform at several pep rallys throughout the year.
They also got to do their pom at a 7th and 8th grade football game! It was so fun my worlds finally collided and I got to watch Matt and Marlie on the same field!!
At Christmas time the girls marched in the Humble Christmas parade!
In the spring the girls got to compete at 2 competitions. They competed in pom, jazz and hip hop. Their pom routine took 1st place and jazz and hip hop 2nd.

This is probably my favorite pic. Hanging out in between dances and chillin'.
Marlie got to see her friend Reagan that dances at Atascosita Middle School. These girls have danced together since they were 3! And Carmen came to watch them too.
Strutters also competed at this competition so we got to see Addie and Jayna!
Marlie got to compete her solos. It was so fun...her teammates and all the Lionette parents came to support her for both solos. When they called her out on stage it was so loud in the auditorium that I wasn't sure she'd hear her music. Marlie said it was the best knowing all her friends were there cheering her on. Such a great group of girls! Marlie also had several of her studio friends cheering her on too. Thank you Carmen, Ella and Cadence!

The second competition went really well too. Marlie had fun hanging out with Brooke who is on Lionettes too. Brooke won the solo competition for 8th graders and Marlie won for 6th grade. They both got to redance at the end of the night and it was so much fun to watch! They did great!
The next morning they woke up and got to audition for Joffrey ballet. Marlie was excited she got number 27 which happens to be Matt's baseball number! They both got accepted to several summer intensives. Thanks Brooke for being a great role model for Marlie and taking care of her when she needed a little extra love!

WMS Basketball - B team goes undefeated!

Our middle school currently has 1,600 students...way over capacity but I won't go there as I have been pleading our case with the school district to please build a new school and it's been slow and frustrating. I digress...we have an A and B basketball team each with about 12 kids plus 1-2 alternates. So it's not easy to make the team. Matt grew up playing soccer in the fall and baseball in the spring. In the last few years he's played some basketball and gets better each year.

We were all super excited when he found out he made the basketball team! He learned he made the B team and we hoped he'd get some playing time. Well, he started. We couldn't have been more proud. It was a great season. He played with several of his friends and the boys loved that Coach Barnes was coaching the 7th grade B team. They played hard. They didn't lose a single game! They won the Humble ISD tournament towards the beginning of the season and ended the year District Champions. Matt started well and finished really strong. We were proud of not only how he played but also his leadership on the court.

They played 4 games and won all of them to win the HISD tournament. The last game was close but they stayed ahead and pulled off the win! Second picture is Cordell, Matt Pittman, Taveon, Corey, Cameron and Matt. One Mom said this was "the crew" and I wasn't sure if our Matt was supposed to be in the picture but she assured me he is part of "the crew". Love it!
Matt did really well shooting especially from the 3 point and free throw line. When we reminded him to d-up, he played great defense and several times got the ball from the inbound and shot a layup.
The boys were really excited to win their last game. A lot of good friendships made this season. Can't thank Coach Barnes enough for all the hours he put into the season and for the tough love.
Both A and B teams together. It was fun to watch these teams support each other all season. The A team only lost 1 game and ended the season as Co-District Champs. They were so talented and a lot of fun to watch! Congratulations Coaches and kids on a great season.
Post game celebration at Chick-fil-A!

Maquerade Dance

Masquerade was the 2nd competition of the season. Unfortunately Marlie was dealing with a back injury. She didn't dance her solos as she was afraid that could strain it worse and she didn't want to miss dancing with her teams. I was proud of her for making that decision and also for working hard all Saturday. She hadn't danced in 2 weeks and it hurt a little but she powered through.

Their contemporary Not Good for Me scored an Unmasked Elite which was the highest score you could receive from the judges. The rest of her team dances all received a Platinum which was awesome. Her dance Smash got an Encore Award and got to redance at the awards ceremony.  They looked great! Their Production placed 3rd in large group dances and her small group jazz dance got 2nd in the small group category. They did great!

The day went by so fast with lots of quick changes so I failed to get many pictures. Thankfully a few Moms captured or purchased some!

Streetz Dance Convention

Marlie started the year off with her team at the Streetz Dance Convention. They auditioned almost first thing Saturday morning and Marlie was excited to be selected as Finalist!
Somehow these girls managed to dance for 2 straight days and loved all the different choreography.
Our team doesn't normally compete team dances but they were allowed to compete their contemporary Not Good for Me. I love this picture of them praying before they went on stage. They ended up getting a Double Platinum, 1st place and Best of Streetz. They got to redance at the closing ceremonies!
Marlie also ended up getting a class scholarship for tap! The tap teacher was awesome and did "house tap" which Marlie loved. Super proud of you and your teammates! Congratulations!
